Empowering Fashion, Crafted with Care
Meet Valerie Mayén, the Latinx, female powerhouse behind Yellowcake and a steadfast ally of our local community. Our strength lies in our diverse and bold team, composed of mostly women, persons of color and people within the LGBTQ community. We’re passionate about creating superior-quality garments, handmade in the heart of the Midwest for everybody and every body. Every piece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, premium construction, and timeless design, ensuring it empowers you to express your unique style confidently.
Our Story
Valerie’s journey into fashion began with a deep-seated passion that overcame the constraints of a conservative upbringing. After studying illustration at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Otis College of Art and Design, Valerie couldn't resist the pull towards fashion. Despite financial challenges, she learned garment construction and started selling her designs on Etsy, eventually gaining international recognition through Project Runway.
