Compensation: The average sewing contractor with Yellowcake makes between $1,000 and $3,000 a month with opportunities to earn more based on experience, ability, and rate of order completion. These numbers are based on production capacity and are highly individualized.

Job Description: Contract Sewist

Position Overview: Passionate about a career in sustainable fashion with a responsibly made clothing brand? Are you looking to build your own sewing business and work out of your own home? Welcome to Yellowcakeshop Clothing (YC)! A YC Sewing Independent Contractor is responsible for filling orders placed by the company to the high quality expected of a luxury fashion brand. They will be paid per piece at a wholesale rate to be determined by the contractor and approved by the company.

Responsibilities and Duties

Understand the complexities of reading patterns and constructing garments
Keep detailed inventory of YC raw goods and patterns kept in your sewing studio
Work with the head designer and studio associate manager to complete minor alterations to patterns to allow for customizations
Fill orders at a rate agreed between you and the studio associate manager
Coordinate the transport of completed garments/raw goods inventory via a shipping company or courier
Can keep track of orders and write monthly invoices to bill the company
Ability to determine rate per garment

Qualifications - Required

2 years industrial or production sewing experience
Cleveland-based candidates preferred.

Knowledge of patternmaking
Local, living in or around the Cleveland area
Ability to adapt to communication systems that may change and evolve as the company grows
Education on style, textiles and fit.

Bachelors in Fashion Design, Costume Design, Patternmaking, or equivalent work experience

Equipment Assistance

We provide access to necessary machinery for the role, with candidates having the option to repay interest-free on a mutually agreed-upon schedule.
